Being Human is Difficult
Season Two - Episode 22
"Compassion is the recognition that someone else is suffering or in pain, coupled with the urge to do something to alleviate that suffering if you can.” – Jordan Goldrich
In this episode, Holly & Kristin talk with Jordan about:
- How growing up in the New York housing projects set the tone for how Jordan communicated, and he saw nothing wrong with it!
- Dealing with bullies in the workplace – what to do if you are one, what to do if you work with one
- Challenges for women who are perceived as bullies
Key Takeaways
- Being human is difficult
- Leaders in the workplace have to drive results
- Leaders in the workplace need to serve the people who work for them
- You have to do both!
As Founder and CEO of Workplace Warrior®, Inc., Jordan Goldrich partners with leaders and executives with an uncommon desire for results, who take charge, lead their teams and accomplish the mission. Jordan believes they are critical for success in our volatile, complex and uncertain times. Sometimes, they are experienced as abrasive and occasionally get called names like bully. He is the author of the Amazon best seller, Workplace Warrior®: People Skills For The No-Bullshit Executive and the Producer and Host of the Podcast Workplace Warrior: Drive Results Without Damaging Relationships®.

BONUS Episode – International Women's Day – Will you help #BreakTheBias?
Episode 20
"Cheers that women have made a little progress in the past few years in getting a few more women into senior-level roles. But at the rate we're going, it's going to take another 400 years to reach a state of equality." – Holly Teska
In this episode, Holly & Kristin talk about:
- It's not just about being a woman. It's also about bringing other aspects of diversity to the workplace and being accepted. Bias is everywhere.
- The added burden of intersectionality.
- How we define "executive presence" and what that means in judging others.
- How the notion of cultural fit has been damaging to the advancement of women.
- And more!
Key Takeaways
- The one thing we can control is how we think about others.
- Each of us doesn't have to set out the change the world ourselves. Just commit to doing something to facilitate the change we need to see.
- At the end of the day, it's about valuing everybody's contribution in a way that honors who they are and allows them to contribute to the greater good of our entire world and the whole of humanity, just by being able to be themselves

- The importance of leveraging your contacts to break into the work you want to do

And he wanted to treat her for lunch because he wanted to tell her, "it's nothing you've done." Her poor manager chose not to see the leader in her and foster and help her grow in our company. He was a heart-centered leader. He inspired her to go out start her own business.
- It's been hard, but it's been worth it because she has been in charge of herself ever since.
- The many inflection points in her journey to doing the work she loves today.
Key Takeaways
- Deb's definition of heart-centered leadership is honoring your connection with people. When you look at your work, people have to come before the paper. People are the paper. People are the processes. People are the protocols, the regulations. Everything comes down to that intrinsic value.
- Recognize that we're not pizza, not everybody likes us. We're like coriander. We're a little bit spicy, but we're not for everybody.
- Life is too short not to try to follow your dreams.

Make Life More Joyful
Episode 17
"You should have a life you love. Let's uplift women and do great things. Make life more joyful." – Sheila Long
In this episode, Holly & Kristin talk with Sheila Long about:
- Her decision to start her own business after she decided to leave the world of big corporate America to focus on family.
- How Sheila began to get acclimated to a new city and make friends and contacts that would later be so important to her beginning her business.
- The power of women helping women to succeed.
Key Takeaways
- There are so many issues in society, and women play a crucial role in moving forward on these issues, especially when they unite.
- As a society, we do not celebrate women taking risks like we do men. Women working with other women helps make that easier for would-be women entrepreneurs.
- Find your tribe of women or a personal board of directors when launching a business or re-inventing yourself. Your loved ones don't want to see you fail and may hold you back in the interest of trying to protect you from all the unknowns and possible failure. People outside your immediate circle can give you the feedback you need most.
- Be open to admitting you can't do everything and reach out for help. Hire an accountant or virtual assistant to allow you to focus on the work you do best. Sometimes it's hard to trust that someone else will do it as well as you.
Sheila Long is the Founder of MalamaDoe, A Coworking Community for Women in Shorewood, Wisconsin, that she began in 2015. Sheila believes in inspiring awesome women to get connected professionally. She facilitated her local Project Management Institute Expert Panel for many years while holding various roles on local boards. Prior to consulting, Sheila worked for over eleven years at Motorola in high tech sales, quality, and service management. Sheila received her MBA in Strategy and Finance from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. She earned International Business, Economics, and Spanish degrees from Saint Louis University where she enjoyed four semesters on their campus in Spain, fine-tuning her cultural knowledge.
Sheila currently resides in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, with her three children. Whenever she's not creating change for the betterment of women's careers, you can find Sheila connecting and building communities while expanding her cultural knowledge, learning a new language, and obsessing over healthy eating.
MalamaDoe's Mission
Everything we do revolves around making this world a better place by helping women use their talents to be the best they can be. We believe women who are empowered by one another and role models build community, help society, and flourish.
We showcase great female role models building community one woman at a time. We help women take supported and calculated risks to develop their talents personally and professionally.
We inspire women to get connected professionally by branding themselves, marketing their talents, and promoting themselves and others.
We cater to women with their own businesses who are taking supported and calculated risks by aiming high and looking for growth – all in areas that showcase their talents.

Partners in Success - Season Two - Episode 16
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
In this episode, Holly & Kristin talk with Terri Herrmann & Kurt Heikkinen about:
- Being true to who you are
- Mind, body, spirit health and using the power of these three things together. Surrounding yourself not only with those who uplift you, but also those who will challenge you
- When we listen more than expressing our own thoughts, great ideas come forward
Key Takeaways
- Take care of yourself and find balance in the mind, body and spirit. Whatever spirituality means for you, it is at the center of life. Find it and engage in feeding this piece of yourself.
- Servant leaders work together as a team. Be intentional about culture – values, operating disciplines and characteristics.
- Balance the “how” with the results. Sometimes organizations focus solely on the results and miss the power of the “how.” They miss the powerful foundation where businesses thrive.
- Don’t be afraid to share your fears with those you trust. They can help you.
Terri Herrmann is the co-founder of CharismaQ - a coaching and communications platform to evaluate, coach, and create charismatic people.
Terri believes that behind every great brand is an even better story. She knows that true financial success happens when you have the confidence to live your own personal brand and communicate the “story of you.”
Terri has partnered with sales teams to exceed revenue goals, and she’s led the launch of three major brands to the market. However, what really drives and inspires Terri is creating meaningful connections and making a difference. Whether that is through leading and growing teams, creating brand advocates, launching and promoting new products to the market, or building an opportunity pipeline - her best work is tied to a greater purpose.
Before starting a business on April 1st, 2020, during a pandemic, Terri spent her entire career leading sales and marketing teams for ManpowerGroup, Runzheimer, Montage, and Modern Hire. After 20 years of sales and marketing success, Terri knew her purpose was to build a business. A business that teaches teams how to show up with confidence and charisma to accelerate performance.
Terri is a Wisconsin native and a UW Whitewater alum. She lives in Richfield with her husband, two children, and their 12-pound dog, Ellie “Ninja” Herrmann.
Kurt Heikkinen -- Leading with a culture-first approach, Kurt is a highly regarded SaaS (Software as a Service) CEO with a proven track record for building high growth, innovative companies and technologies to meet the ever-changing needs in the world of work.
Kurt is currently the CEO of Forj, a leading virtual events and member experience platform for associations and professional community organizations. He also serves on the board of various early-stage SaaS companies, was previously the CEO at Modern Hire and Montage, and served in executive leadership roles at PeopleSoft, Metavante and Evolve Software.

Sharing Belly Hugs
Season Two - Episode 15
"When I think of my Dad’s lasagna, I get all the warm fuzzy feelings of being in my childhood home with my family.” – Hollie Mealy
In this episode, Holly & Kristin talk with Hollie about:
- How Hollie went from full-time teacher to part-time teacher, to President and founder of a 501c3 (non-profit)
- The challenges and victories in starting a not-for-profit organization
- Setting a ten-year goal and achieving it far ahead of schedule
- What’s next for Right Relief Inc. – listen in to hear the dream!
Key Takeaways
- Don’t let your doubts get in the way of trying something you believe in
- Don’t be afraid of being told no, things do not always go smoothly
- Ask for help
- Use your connections
Hollie Mealy is the President and founder of the Nonprofit The Right Relief Inc. based in Menomonee Falls and serving Caregivers in the Milwaukee area.
Starting in September of 2019, Mealy and the #ReliefSquad (Right Relief volunteers) began making meals for local Caregivers who were caring for loved ones in their homes. Caregivers could be helping anyone from an elderly parent to a newborn baby. Group meals also began at both Kathy’s House and Ronald McDonald House prior to Covid.
Mealy set a goal of 5,475 meals (or belly hugs!) in total. This number is in honor of her late Father, Rob, and is the number of meals the family shared together during Mealy’s childhood growing up in Peshtigo, WI. Diane (her mother) and Kellie (her sister) were both caregivers for Rob for several years and Hollie witnessed the extreme love and support they both put into making sure his needs were met. This often led to their own needs going by the wayside.
Mealy and the Relief Squad intend to provide Relief in the form of home-cooked meals to area Caregivers so that they have the feeling that someone is caring for them too and they aren’t “going it alone.” Mealy and her family were the recipients of many such meals during her father’s illness and they always had the “pay it forward” attitude and loved to bake and cook for others.
